Week 7 Wednesday-Thursday
Finished the Local Gallery tutorial and redoing the Restricting Events tutorial. Re did all the handouts so that they were bigger except the intro functions, methods2, lists, arrays & lists, and texture maps tutorial (those need to be unlocked by Lana and Jenna). Working on creating a scene change template tutorial.
Week 7 Tuesday
Helped with the second day of the workshop. Henry taught me how to make your own local gallery in Alice. I’ll be writing a tutorial for that (probably two versions, one for mac, one for PC). Finished the BDE event tutorial (uploaded to repository). Changed “advanced” to “more” in the repository because advanced is intimidating as a word. Waiting review on the light...
Week 7 Monday
Helped hand out parking passes in the morning and with the space/humvee tutorial. Downloaded the latest version of Alice 2.2. Finished the Light tutorial. Sent to Rodger for review.
Week 6 Monday-Friday
Summary:
Helped out with the Alice 3 and Beginning Java workshops. Created a world for the light tutorial, in the process of writing the actual tutorial.
Thoughts:
Alice 3 has alot of bugs. Hopefully they get those fixed before they release in august.

Finished the camera control tutorial. Drafted idea for art world. Starting the light tutorial.

Finished up the class variables tutorial, fixed some php errors in Jenna’s second methods and lists tutorial. Working on the AsSeenBy tutorial. Planned a lunch trip with the group to chick-fil-a on friday, I’m excited =).

Finished and uploaded the four part tutorial with a horse (on the repository site). Helped Lana upload her functions .pdfs. Started on the class level variables tutorial. Still need to figure out how to layout the example world pages.

Summary:
FInished part 3, working on part four. Found a bug with recorded sounds on mac. Tried to fix it by checking the java version i was running but no luck. Henry said it worked on alice 2.0 so maybe it’s a 2.2 bug? no documentation on the alice site. Will check with rodger when she comes back

Finished part 1 of the four part series revision. Working on part 2. I’ll upload it when all 4 parts are finished and I’ve talked to deborah about the title. Need to create an examples folder and put it on the index page for the example worlds.

Finished the Billboard and Events tutorial. Working on redoing the four part tutorial. Helped unload snacks. Still some problem with writing permission in some of the folders but for now it hasn’t been causing too many problems.

Summary:
Created a tutorial for uploading to the repository and teacher site. Can be found on the repository site (http://www.cs.duke.edu/csed/alice09) under “instructions” at the top. Summary:
Managed to get the tutorial page working. The content still needs to be cleaned up a bit. Redid the folder structure in the repository site so that it would work with the tutorial page. (http://www.cs.duke.edu/csed/alice09) Not everything that is on the repository page is up on the workshop09 tutorial page. This is so we can test moving things around.

Summary:
Managed to finish up the Invisible Heads powerpoint and make .pdfs/handouts for it. Put that as well as an edited timer tutorial up there (http://www.cs.duke.edu/csed/alice09/). Had a meeting to talk about organization. Hopefully we can use the white board to keep track of what tutorials are done and are not.

Summary:
Had a meeting this morning with the whole crew. Deborah and Lana arrived safely and we went through the general plan for the summer. Starting in late June will be the alice conference and follow up workshops then a series of one week introduction workshops. The goal now is to get the tutorials and content ready for the workshops and my part in that willl be primarily editing tutorials...

Brought my Mac today. Installed Alice on it as well as a basic text editor. Was able to access the cs server using the terminal but it’s still a new experience for me. I’m alot faster/more comfortable moving files and uploading on windows. I continued working on the repository page. Created a webpage for the repository after I figured out the access problem. Henry told me I couldn’t write to the directory for some reason but I could download so I emailed prof Rodger and she figured it out. I uploaded Jenna’s powerpoint as a test and revised the corresponding bunny one to match it.

Began with the lesson plan page and took screen shots of all available Alice worlds that could be downloaded from that site. Did the same for the examples page. Went to the official Alice site and discovered they were working on an Alice 3.0. It looks really cool, read some papers on Alice. Today I got the key from Jewel on the third floor and set up shop in the back right corner of D103.
